HMP Interim Measures Building
Olympic Construction completed the new HMP Interim Measures Building, a two-storey, 6,000 ft² correctional facility constructed within the secure and fully operational Her Majesty’s Penitentiary campus in St. John’s.
Delivered under a Design-Build Contract, the project required extensive coordination between Olympic Construction, the Design Team, Facility Management, and Correctional Operations. Working within an active correctional facility introduced unique challenges related to security, controlled access, material deliveries, workforce movement, site logistics, and sequencing—all while ensuring ongoing prison operations remained uninterrupted.
The new purpose-built facility incorporates secure institutional spaces and supporting building systems designed to meet the specialized operational and security requirements of a correctional environment. Close collaboration throughout design and construction allowed the project team to address evolving operational requirements while maintaining schedule, quality, and safety.
The successful completion of the HMP Interim Measures Building demonstrates Olympic Construction’s ability to deliver complex, security-sensitive projects within occupied and operational environments, while providing the single-point accountability and collaborative approach of Design-Build delivery.
